Mr. Ramachandran heads the project development activities for the 170 MW barge mounted power project under development in Mangalore, India by Smith Cogeneration Pvt. Ltd. In addition, he is responsible for identifying the potential business opportunities in India.
Mr. Ramachandran began his career with Indian Navy as a commissioned officer and served on-board ships as a Mechanical Engineering Officer. He also had a staff appointment at the Naval Headquarters where he coordinated with various defense shipyards entrusted with construction of war ships.
Upon completion of his naval service, Mr. Ramachandran joined Reliance Industries and worked to develop a 220 MW captive power project from concept to commissioning. Subsequently, he had joined Bechtel, the global engineering-construction organization, and worked in a managerial position while developing Enron’s 770 MW Dabhol power project.
Mr. Ramachandran's 15 years of experience in the energy private sector has given him a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding IPP project development in India and a way to find innovative solutions to keep the project on track. He has the first hand experience in raising debt as well as employing other project financing methods. He also is well versed on the laws and regulations pertaining to IPP business.
Mr. Ramachandran is an engineering graduate with a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
